Ethical Valentines Day Shopping Guide Ellery

Ethical Valentines Day Shopping Guide

Oh Valentines day.....so many people have so many different thoughts about it. It's one of those holidays you either love or hate, or love to hate. I personally enjoy the idea of Valentines day, regardless if I have a Valentine or not, I mean "treat yo' self "  am I right?
I used to love making a mailbox in elementary school and carefully selecting which valentines I wanted to give to the class. I am also a huge fan of heart shaped pizzas and any excuse to buy pink M&M's.
The downside of holidays like this are the excess waste that is used to make all the little heart shaped plastic items in the Target dollar section and all the plastic wrapped plastic heart shaped boxes of chocolates from CVS.
This year treat your loved one (or yourself, I mean as Lizzo says "Imma marry me one day" ) to a handcrafted piece of jewelry, card, or handwoven clutch. These pieces support women artisans to earn an income and invest in the community, support local business and allow you to give a gift that comes from the heart.
Here are some of my favorites:

1) Rose Quartz Crystal Cuffs-$35: Rose quartz is the stone if universal love. It restores harmony and trust in relationships and encourages unconditional love

2) Charlie Pouch, Handwoven Clutch- $60:  For centuries, textile artists in India have been perfecting intricate techniques of dyeing, weaving and stitching. These rich traditions are the source of our creative inspiration. We give 10% of our sales to programs that send girls to school in rural India. In this part of the world, education changes a girl’s life and the lives of generations to come. Use as a travel organizer, coin purse or a cosmetic bag. Made with handloomed cotton and soft natural suede leather; finished with a soft cotton lining. Leather Wristlet Strap | Zip Closure

3) Beaded Canvas Earrings- $30: Beaded patches of pale pinks create a gorgeous painted canvas effect. Goldtone-plated brass and glass beads. This piece of handmade jewelry was crafted at a fair trade cooperative in India

4) Schitt's Creek 'Simply the Best' card- $6 : I mean watching David lip sync Tina Turners The Best to Patrick was simply the best, sweetest and funny scene in the show so yeah... this card is a must.
