1. The Allure of Thrifted Fashion:
Thrifted fashion is all about embracing unique pieces that tell a story. Just like the cozy town of Stars Hollow, where Gilmore Girls is set, thrifted fashion exudes a sense of nostalgia and authenticity. Scouring thrift stores allows you to discover hidden gems that can't be found in mainstream stores. Think chunky knit sweaters, plaid skirts, and oversized blazers—staples that give off a vintage yet effortlessly chic vibe. By opting for thrifted pieces, you're not only reducing your environmental footprint but also adding character to your wardrobe.
2. Channeling Lorelai's Quirky Cool:
Lorelai Gilmore, the show's quick-witted and spirited protagonist, has a fashion sense that's all her own. She effortlessly blends classic pieces with unexpected elements, creating an eclectic and cozy-chic look. Take a page out of Lorelai's style book by pairing a vintage floral dress with a leather jacket or donning a quirky hat to add a touch of whimsy to your outfit. Layering is key—mix textures, patterns, and accessories to create a visually captivating ensemble that perfectly mirrors Lorelai's bold yet charming style.
3. Embracing Rory's Collegiate Elegance:
Rory Gilmore, the bookish and poised daughter, embodies a more refined yet approachable style. Her fall fashion choices often revolve around preppy classics that are given a modern twist. Think button-down shirts, tailored blazers, and knee-high boots—all essential pieces for your fall wardrobe. To channel Rory's sophisticated look, opt for well-fitted blouses, A-line skirts, and timeless cardigans. Mix and match earthy tones like deep burgundy, forest green, and rich mustard to capture her refined elegance.
4. Cozy Layers Inspired by the Stars Hollow Aesthetic:
The charming town of Stars Hollow serves as the backdrop for much of the show's magic, and its whimsical atmosphere is reflected in the characters' attire. Capture the essence of Stars Hollow by layering cozy pieces that offer both comfort and style. Think oversized scarves, cable-knit sweaters, and tweed skirts. Whether you're sipping coffee at Luke's Diner or taking a leisurely stroll through fallen leaves, these cozy layers will keep you warm while exuding small-town charm.
5. DIY and Personalization:
A key element of Gilmore Girls' style is the personal touch each character adds to their outfits. Replicate this by incorporating DIY elements into your fall fashion. Embellish a thrifted sweater with hand-stitched embroidery, add patches to your denim jacket, or repurpose a vintage scarf into a headband. These small touches infuse your outfits with your own personality and pay homage to the characters' penchant for creating one-of-a-kind looks.
As you transition into the fall season, let the Gilmore Girls inspire your fashion choices. By embracing thrifted pieces and infusing them with the charm of Stars Hollow, you can create a wardrobe that's both timeless and uniquely your own. Whether you gravitate towards Lorelai's quirky cool or Rory's collegiate elegance, remember that the key to capturing their style lies in mixing classic pieces with unexpected elements. So, grab a cup of coffee, cozy up in your favorite sweater, and let Gilmore Girls guide you towards a fall fashion that's as heartwarming as the show itself.

2. Transitional Outerwear
As the temperatures begin to cool down, layering becomes key. Choose lightweight outerwear pieces that you can easily throw on when the air gets a bit chilly. A cropped denim jacket, a light trench coat, or a stylish shacket (shirt-jacket) are perfect options for this transitional period. These pieces add style while keeping you comfortable during fluctuating temperatures.
3. Knitwear, Lightly
While it might not be cold enough for heavy sweaters just yet, incorporating lightweight knitwear into your outfits is a great way to bridge the gap between seasons. Look for knit tops, cardigans, and dresses made from breathable materials that provide just the right amount of warmth without overheating.
4. Midi Dresses with Boots
Midi dresses are a staple that effortlessly transitions from summer to autumn. Pair your favorite midi dress with ankle or knee-high boots to add a touch of fall flair to your outfit. This combination allows you to show off a bit of skin while keeping your legs warm as the weather cools down.
5. Layered Accessories
Accessories can make a significant impact on your overall look. Experiment with layering delicate necklaces, stacking rings, and adding scarves or bandanas to create dimension and visual interest. These little touches can elevate even the simplest of outfits.
As the summer sun begins to wane and the leaves start to turn, it's the perfect time to update your wardrobe with late summer to autumn fashion trends. From earthy tones and lightweight knitwear to midi dresses paired with boots, these trends allow you to seamlessly transition between seasons while staying stylish and comfortable. Embrace the changing colors of nature and infuse your wardrobe with the warmth and charm of fall. Whether you're layering outerwear, experimenting with accessories, or rocking autumn-inspired prints, the key is to have fun and let your personal style shine through every outfit you create.

Florals- Florals might seem like an obvious choice for spring but I love wearing florals especially as we see them pop up all around us. They are the perfect pattern for everything from a casual weekend brunch to a wedding or special event. Flirty fabrics and styles combined with a pretty print make it versatile
Gingham- Gingham is a classic pattern that has been around for decades, but it has recently made a comeback as a popular spring trend. A Gingham top with high-waisted jeans is a versatile look and a gingham dress is also a popular and cute look for spring. The bold pattern adds a pop of color and interest to your outfit.

]]>Do you remember those from when you were a kid? My sister, dad, and I would meticulously go through all that we had to find and I remember just loving looking at all the different things on the page completely captivated.
And not just captivated by looking for what was hidden but by the images themselves full of tiny and fun things. Just thinking about looking at those images makes my brain feel good if that makes any sense. It’s like my eyes crave to look at busy and beautiful images.
I think that being so into these books became how I first started to love retail, as I grew up and moved away from these books I came obsessed with Anthropologie store windows. I loved that it was so creative and the closer you looked you could see so many more details.
After getting Dagwood and walking him on the Olentangy Trail I became obsessed with looking at the wetlands and taking in all the details of nature and noticing all the wildflowers, Blue Heron, Egrets, and deer. Every time I spot one it brings me joy, just like finding the items in the I Spy books.
It’s also what I love about thrifting, you just walk through an aisle and something will catch your eye and bring you a little joy and excitement.
It happens to all of us and it’s my absolute favorite thing when I see people walk past my booth and something has drawn them in.
It’s my goal and mission for Ellery to be a place where you can look around and find something that brings you joy when you spot it.
Whether it’s a handbag, cute coasters, or a bottle of perfume. I want you to walk past our booth at a market or scroll online and find something that makes you like you found something special.
So this holiday season we are focusing on things that bring us joy, no matter how big or small. After all, it’s always about being surprised at the details of something that makes it so exciting, the deer in the woods, the hidden object on a dresser in a book, or finding a beautiful scarf in a store window display.
Joy is often a word used a lot during the holidays but it’s one of the core principles in our shop, so this holiday season and always, fill your life with things that bring you joy.
]]>In the same way that people try diets, I have tried to slim down my closet leaving me with only what I love. This process has left me scrambling to add in more basics after getting rid of them because I thought I didn’t need that many, getting rid of clothes I loved because I did the hanger trick and if I didn’t wear them in the last year I would get rid of them.
]]>
Most people I know have way more clothes than what is shown in a capsule wardrobe and I don’t know anyone who only dresses in neutrals.
A capsule wardrobe seems like a lofty goal and I would love to edit my wardrobe and have pieces that fit me perfectly and that I can wear and interchange with one another.
But no matter how hard I try I always end up with a lot more clothes than I will ever actually wear.
In the same way that people try diets, I have tried to slim down my closet leaving me with only what I love. This process has left me scrambling to add in more basics after getting rid of them because I thought I didn’t need that many, getting rid of clothes I loved because I did the hanger trick and if I didn’t wear them in the last year I would get rid of them.
When I started shopping for Ellery’s closet I knew that I wanted to fill it with great basics for you to choose from because those are the building blocks of a wardrobe. When I started writing clothing descriptions I realized that I had been interpreting capsule wardrobes all wrong.
I do have certain styles and colors that I am drawn to and when I go to make an outfit I am reaching for similar things all the time but my wardrobe is not as heavily curated and nor does it include all the same pieces that keep getting shown to me on Instagram.
I think we just have to get better at shopping for our own closets! It’s like the Wizard of OZ and we are Dorothy realizing we’ve been home all along, we don’t need to buy all new clothes or try colors we won’t ever wear, we just have to get curious about the stuff we already like!
I’ve been into style and trying to work in style staples into my closet my whole life and it wasn't until now at thirty that I really understand what it means. We have been thinking about capsule wardrobes all wrong. So let me share with you what I have learned.
First- Go into your closet and group all “like” things together:
Maybe you are a much more organized person than me and already do this. Long sleeve shirts altogether, dresses, tops, etc.
Now, look at the colors and patterns of all the items you have in there. For instance, when I look at my long sleeve shirts I can see that I like a couple of chambray, a white button-down, a black button-down, and some flannels and a couple of henley's.
Now that you have grouped like with like and are noticing colors, patterns, and materials that take note because you know yourself best and it’s important to learn what you like and what you will actually wear.
Do this with all categories of your clothes, like with like, and start looking to see what trends you notice in your own closet.
Step 2- Try on what you don’t wear and figure out why you don’t wear it
This part involves some work but now take out the pieces that you don’t wear regularly. I know we all have special occasion stuff, and items for job interviews so keep all that, so you don’t have to buy it again.
But all the other shirts that you don’t immediately grab, again and again, take those out and you are gonna try them on.
As important as it is to figure out why you like something, it’s important to figure out why you don’t like something as well.
Here are some things to consider-
Fit- How your clothes fit matters because if there is a fit problem it most likely means you won’t wear it, and I’m not just talking about size. I continue to buy button-down shirts in a size too small for my chest because I always have gaping or buttons popping undone. This leaves me frustrated every time I wear the shirt because I am not trying to give the world a show every time I leave my house.
Here are some other questions I have asked myself when doing this process:
Does this item of clothing require a different type of bra that you don't normally wear?
Does it always slip off your shoulder and drive you crazy?
Does this material make you sweat, or is itchy, or too clingy?
Do I have to wear an extra layer under this to make it work? Do I like wearing an extra layer under this to make it work?
Is it too short-waisted? Too long?
Style/ Shape-
I always love a dolman sleeve but you know what? I will never end up wearing that top because I don’t end up liking the shape on me. Same with a scoop neck, I will never wear it, but I do like a V-neck because those are the shirts that I keep grabbing. So here is what I ask myself when considering style and shape.
Is it a style you wanted to try and was trendy but you know it’s not for you?
What styles are you noticing in the clothes you already have?
When you make an outfit what is your aesthetic? Trendy? Comfy Athleisure? A Mix? Colorful and fun?
This isn’t about finding a new style and there is no wrong answer. Skinny jeans will never be out of style. My love of fashion has shown me that the most stylish people all dress in a “uniform” so what’s yours?
Anna Wintour loves a floral A-line dress and a cardigan. What do you Love?
I love having a defined waist. It’s the shape that I always feel most comfortable with. And that is whether or not I’ve tucked my shirt into high-waist mom jeans, or am wearing a wrap dress, or I like I semi- crop top and high leggings. All clothing that doesn’t give me this shape is clothes I notice that I don't really wear or I don’t feel comfortable in.
Color- We all have colors we have been told we look good in so we buy them and then don’t grab them because we don’t feel comfortable in them. For example, I will never wear navy. I love the color, but for whatever reason, never will I ever wear it.
Look and see if there are any colors you notice that keep ending up in your don't wear pile.
Do you love the color but it’s not working for you? Can you try it in a shade lighter or darker, would that be better?
Step 3- Now that you’ve done all this homework hang up only what you constantly grab for in your closet.
What are you noticing?
How are you feeling?
Are you feeling inspired?
Are you realizing you have a lot to work with?
Are you realizing that you’ve been having a hard time because you are missing some basics?
Are you realizing all you have are basics and you could use some fun statement pieces?
All of this is to say that there are no fashion rules. Trends come and go, and fashion changes, but style is YOU. It’s what you like, what you love, and what brings you joy. That’s all clothes should be doing.
It’s easy to find it frustrating but always know that everyone looks best in what they are most comfortable with and that you already know what you love and like, its just a matter of taking note of your own clothes.
My capsule wardrobe is floral dresses, some more masculine jackets/blazers/ Cozy flannels, and super feminine tops for summer. I have a couple of graphic t’s I like to mix in I have a few big sweaters and some new skirts that I have been playing around with. And everything in my closet now feels like me and is allowing me to rediscover my style at thirty and also be able to wear, wash, and repeat all my favorite things.
]]>I remember feeling terrified to share and hoping that it went unnoticed by everyone. Looking back I had no idea where this idea could take me and nothing is more terrifying than sharing a new idea that you have no real idea how you will make work.
In all honesty, the last 7 weeks have been some of the hardest in the previous 4 years. I feel like Rocky and the economy, higher rent and this mid-west weather is my Apollo Creed.
The other day while talking to my sister told me that I was resilient. That word stuck out because I feel like it’s more like stubbornness to make this work. After all, it is all I want to do.
I think that being resilient is a lesson I have always been learning. In my life, I have been completely knocked down a time or two.
And while it sometimes feels impossible, I know that I will always get back up.
While it’s a hard skill to learn, I also think it might be my greatest strength.
The last couple of weeks has been so hard that I have thought maybe I should just take a little break and do something with a stable income where I don’t have to be in charge of all of the decisions and not have to be in problem-solving mode all of the time while also creating content to share our shop with the world.
Recently I have been craving time outside in the morning sun to see the animals and goldenrod on the trails. I have also been dying to get my hands on some fashion magazines. And find my roots in how I fell in love with the fashion world as a kid. When I was younger, I would pour over Elle, Vogue, and In Style and feel inspired by clothes and accessories and how you could create so many new looks and styles.
Then today, I read a newsletter from Allie Lehman, where she shared about resilience. She shared that the writer said “ The more beauty in our ecosystem, the more resilient it is likely to be. When the ecosystem's energy has eroded some, one way to help restore it is to bring back beauty. It could be as simple as sending flowers, notes of sincere appreciation, or engaging in creative work.”
Finding beauty is like finding gratitude. And that is one of the key ways to build resilience.
Reading this floored me. It made so much sense. Whenever I feel like I have gotten the shit kicked out of me I seek out beauty. Whether it’s art in the way of books, tv, movies, or a walk in nature with a special playlist. Finding awe and something inspiring always gives me some perspective. This tracks my life and how I always find the need to see something beautiful. Whether it’s decorating my apartment, curating items in the shop for Ellery, or going on a long walk I find myself needing it daily.
Knowing that beauty and resilience are linked feels inspiring to me, and maybe that’s why no matter how hard these last 7 weeks have felt I find myself being pulled back up and ready for more years to come for Ellery and to keep sourcing more beauty to share with the world.

Most of my outfits are made up of clothes from the thrift store and then my accessories I like to buy from women-owned businesses and small businesses. I always think that accessories are fun items to buy that might cost a little more and have a story behind them because they are special little touches that you can incorporate into so many different outfits.
For this look I layered a cashmere tank with an oversized blazer and a light wash denim shorts for a great daytime look if you are out and about for a weekend playing tourist in your own city.
Gwen Crossbody Bag- The Gwen crossbody is one of my favorite purses in the shop right now because of how fun it is to style it. I love the chunky chain strap and the adjustable and removeable crossbody strap. It gives this bag an elegant and cool vibe that is so easy to dress up or down. The darker cream is the perfect neutral for fall and I love the gold accents.
Austen Ring This ring might be tiny, but I love the fun impact that it brings to an outfit. This little gold star is a fun detail and shape for a little added sparkle to your fall wardrobe.
Fiona Chain Necklace- I love the juxtaposition of this chunky necklace with a soft material and color top, and I also love how this necklace plays up the heavier look and texture of the blazer. This look conveys mixed messages and that is my favorite kind of look. This necklace is one of my new favorites because it is great on it's own and great as a layering piece.

The sky is full of pinks and purples as the sun comes up and the sun casts a warm glow through the trees.
For our Fall collection we are feeling so inspired from that feeling and are leaning into it by styling our pieces with dusty pinks and embracing the soft glow of the warm gold jewelry.

Grand Teton Rancher Hat- Fall is the perfect time to pull out your hat and add it to a midi dress. This tan wool hat is the perfect fall accessory. It adds a little something extra to any outfit and it keeps the sun off and keeps ya a little warm while out picking pumpkins and apples.
Heather Earrings: These dusty salmon pink earrings remind or fall sunrises and sunsets. I love the color combination of the pink and gold and I think they are the perfect earrings to pair with all your beige fall neutrals. A big chunky beige sweater paired with jean shorts and these warm pink earrings are the perfect easy going comfy look for that in between warm weather.
Rose Stamped Necklace: A delicate floral gold necklace is about as romantic and feminine as jewelry can get. I love this necklace because while it has really great details they are dainty enough to not pull the focus of an outfit but rather compliment all the other pieces one has on. This necklace is the building block of all of my fall outfits. It it great on it's own and looks great when layered with other pieces.
Simone Bracelet - This bracelet just came into the shop and I'm already in love with it. This gold bracelet is the perfect fall accessory. I love the feminine detail of the open spaces in the links and I love that is it also big and makes an impact.

I don't like limiting certain jewelry and clothes to just a certain season. I like to style them differently to make my closet more sustainable and I always love the new ways that I can find to wear them.

Fall work from home days definitely call for working at a coffee shop from time to time to get that PSL and to lean into the cozy days of a warm coffee shop when there is a chill in the air and a warm cup of coffee on the table.
A simple outfit of a white tank top, leather jacket and jeans can easily be dressed up and accessorized with a canvas bag that perfect holds your laptop and notebook, and a layered gold necklace combo.
Sloane Slouchy Crossbody - The perfect bag to carry all of your essentials to the coffee shop. Roomy, two outside pockets and the crossbody strap make it an effortless choice for busy days on the go.
Simone Bracelet- I love wearing this bracelet because it is so versatile and goes with any outfit. I also love that it is loose enough to move further down your wrist to it isn't always hitting the keyboard while you type.
Rose Stamped Necklace: I love the classic style of a pendant necklace. Perfect for everyday wear and a great base piece for layering necklaces. I also love a floral detail so this little rose stamped pendant is a winner in my book.
Fiona Chain Necklace: A big chunky necklace is the perfect layering piece to add to your outfit to create more of a look. Easy to add to any look and helps make a little bit more of a statement.

I love to wear these bandanas as headbands, and as a scarf to add a little something extra to my outfit. They are even great for your 4 legged friends!
These are also machine washable which is so great to make them even softer and fresh after a weekend of adventure!
Here is a little up close look at the patterns and some inspiration for how to wear them.

Let's go girls!
If you are looking for a fun place for a girls weekend I cannot recommend Nashville enough!
Great food, easy to get around, fun shopping, and of course all of the amazing live music!
If you are going you must stop at White Limozeen- A Dolly Parton themed restaurant. It's all pink, great for photo ops, and has amazing drinks.
You also cannot miss Whiskey Rhythm on Broadway. We saw the most incredible band there and they take requests! They were so talented and were definitely the highlight of the trip.
The other fun part of traveling for a girls weekend is getting a little more dressed up than you usually do and hitting the town and sight seeing with your friends.
Here are my top 5 picks in the shop to bring with you!
While it’s hard, it’s also one of my favorite things. I love getting to see different neighborhoods and places and seeing new faces all around the city.
Since I don’t have a physical location for the shop I love getting to set up my booth to show off and display all the amazing things we have in the shop.
I love seeing what catches people's eye as they walk by and I love helping you pick out which bag would work best for you or gush over some of our skincare products and see if you are team Meadow or Desert Fleur.
I am totally in love with the process. Each show morning starts with loading up the car in the dark with all of the inventory and patting myself on the back for loading up the car so efficiently (it does not always go like this after a market lol, it’s a bit more of a mess).
Next is heading to Starbucks to get a cold brew and a bacon gouda sandwich and then it’s hitting the road.
To wake me up, every time I drive to Cincinnati I blast my playlist of all my favorite Taylor Swift songs and sing along the whole drive down.
Driving in the summer and watching the sunrise come up over 71 is truly beautiful and is my favorite way to start a long day.
Sometimes things don’t always go how I hoped but I always love the start of these days and getting back home to Dagwood and ordering a large pizza from one of my favorite places to celebrate a day of hard work.
Sometimes the process is just as good as the results.
